I read a book about management a few years ago that advised the best way to run a business was not to hire people and assume you could fill any void in their personality with good training. The only way to succeed, the author claimed, was to hire well-adjusted, responsible people, then let them use their best judgment in doing their jobs. The resulting sense of ownership they would gain would create a working environment where…(fill in the rest). I love that approach to management, but I would like to hear from CEOs of very large companies to hear how feasible it is to put into practice.
