To Do Your Work, Work Your Brain

I was watching a documentary about an Olympic downhill skier and how she trained for competition.  In one segment, she showed how she trained for balance by standing on top of a large rubber exercise ball.  As I watched her muscles straining as the ball wobbled back and forth, I thought, “This is the same as training for business skills.”  Standing on an exercise ball has nothing to do with skiing, but it has everything to do with developing the muscles necessary to ski well.  If we want to be better at our jobs, we can’t just train for our job, we have to develop the muscles necessary to do our jobs well.
