Neil Shastri

New to the Twin Cities, Neil grew up in St. Louis, where he stumbled into improv in high school and immediately loved building ideas with other people. He spent his early years performing musical theatre at The Muny in Forest Park, which kicked off a lifelong obsession with storytelling. That curiosity for where creativity could go eventually led him to the original Broadway cast of Bombay Dreams in 2004.

He later studied Visual Effects at the Savannah College of Art and Design, lived in Atlanta for seven years, and recently moved to the Twin Cities in 2025. After more than a decade away from performing, improv felt like a natural way back. He enjoys telling stories, staying present, and seeing what happens when a bunch of goofballs trust each other and commit to the bit.

By day, Neil works as a Creative Director in the marketing world and mentors graphic designers through AIGA MN. By night, he is usually cooking spicy food in the kitchen, walking around with a camera, or thinking up characters that might sneak their way into a Director Duels show.

He has deeply missed the performing arts community and is stoked to be jumping back in with this crew of talented humans. Big thanks to Stevie Ray, Chris Barron, Joe Harstad, the Director Duels teams, and especially his wife, Lisa, for her constant support and patience with him through all of the creative chaos.
